September 26th this year will be the 12th anniversary of Moksha, a fashion boutique & art gallery located on U District. This anniversary has extraordinary meaning to the Moksha family, thus they will present a fascinating fashion show featuring 12 local designers with styles from high fashion couture to street wear.
I once wondered why the Moksha family take the 12th anniversary so seriously, why not 10th or 20th like other stores usually do? But soon my Chinese background helped my find the answer.
As you may have heard of the Chinese zodiac, which has a 12-year cycle, and the year a person was born is called his/her "year of birth". Chinese believe that in your "year of birth", you will be more vulnerable, and thus more easily to be affected by some mysterious power. I remember on my 12th birthday, my grandma tied a red braided cord on my wrist. She told me to wear the red braided cord till the next birthday, so it can help me to conquer evil spirit and other monsters, which I tend to interpret as big challenges in modern time :P. Once you conquered all challenges and survived your "year of birth", you will become stronger.
Well, enough said, I believe it will be a fun night! Besides fashion show, there is also dance party and free snacks. Feel free to check out their facebook page for more info:
